Why are psychoeducational assessments important?
Psychoeducational assessments are significant as they can help you understand your child’s learning and behavioural profile. They identify the way your child learns best and help you understand your child’s behaviour. For example, your child may struggle to perform as expected in reading, writing, or mathematics. A psycho-educational assessment would help to identify areas of need and help you and your child understand their strengths. These assessments also help parents/caregivers, educators as well as the child himself to acknowledge particular strengths and well-developed capabilities that can foster a better understanding.

Screening Tests

Intelligence Quotient (IQ) Tests

Every student can learn, no matter how intelligent. But some students struggle in school because of a weakness in one specific area of intelligence. These students often benefit from special education programs. There, they get extra help in the areas where they’re struggling. IQ tests can help teachers figure out which students would benefit from such extra help.

Process & Rates
What is psychological testing? Psychological evaluation is a process that includes a combination of clinical interview, completion of written questionnaires, and use of a variety of standardized measures in two or more one-on-one appointments with your child or adolescent. Depending upon the individual concerns and questions to be answered by the evaluation, testing may include measures of:
Cognitive Ability, Academic Achievement and Learning Progress, Attention and Executive Functioning, Visual and Auditory Information Processing, Problem Solving Strategies, Motor and Visual Perceptual Abilities, Memory, Behavioural and Emotional Functioning, Autistic Spectrum Screening,
What is the process? The first appointment is an initial evaluation, which typically includes a discussion with the child or adolescent and the parents to learn more about the current concerns and difficulties, as well as to gather background history and information about school functioning and, to review the findings from written questionnaires completed in advance. Additional information is gathered using cognitive, emotional and behavioural screeners. This initial interview usually lasts between 1 – 2 hours.
The testing sessions for a full diagnostic evaluation are usually scheduled in one or two sessions on separate days and typically lasts 2-1/2 – 4 hours (each). For specific assessment, the time can range between 1 – 1½ hours. The specific measures chosen depend on the concerns to be addressed.
The family feedback meeting is scheduled 1 – 3 weeks after the final testing session (unless it is an urgent matter, which can be completed in 1 week) — and after all other supporting data and reports have been received — to review the test results and recommendations. At that appointment, you will be provided with a comprehensive written report.
Full comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation is generally between $4500.00 and $6000.00.
Specific assessments costs between $3000.00 and $4000.00.
