About Us

Deborah Gibran – Psychologist & Counsellor

My name is Deborah Gibran. I am a Psychologist under the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists with a practice in educational psychology. I have been providing psychological services and counseling for over seven years and have been in the educational sector for over ten years. In addition to my private practice, I have worked and interned in psychological settings such as child and youth mental health, child and family counseling centers, child-centered trauma counseling programs, and schools.

In therapy, my goal is to create a supportive and accepting environment for my clients. I work with individuals and families from a systemic perspective, knowing we experience wounds through relationships but through relationships, we can also find healing. In my work, I use an integrative approach, which means I combine elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems theorypositive and humanistic psychologymindfulness and play therapy.

My expertise also includes conducting psycho-educational assessments which show how a child learns; it can also provide a diagnosis of a learning disability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), developmental disability, and identify any other social/emotional/behavioural, or psychological problems.

I have always been fascinated by the human mind, conscious and unconscious – that is what writing and reading is about, too. The why of your life and the why of your choices and the what has happened that you know and the what that you don’t know is really riveting, and psychoanalysts share my wonder at how it all unfolds.

Zahirah Mohammed – Educator & Academic Support

My name is Zahirah Mohammed and I am an educator who works under DG Psychological & Counselling Services. I believe that all students can learn if taught using methods that meet their learning strengths and weaknesses; suit their academic needs and their learning style. My teaching skills are initiated by the self-directed approach where learners can eventually become equipped to function without extra help.

I have been working with children and adolescents where my skills include design instructions specifically based on student needs. These would include:

Academic Subject Support And Tutoring
  • Social Studies
  • Math
  • Writing and Composition
  • Homework Assistance
  • Reading Comprehension Weaknesses

Reading Disabilities
  • Working memory weakness
  • Processing speed weaknesses
  • Phonemic awareness weakness
  • Decoding weakness
  • Fluency weakness
  • Vocabulary weakness
  • Comprehension weakness

I think that we already have a really good system in town, but I have a vision that it could be even better. My vision is that academic excellence is the area that we should pursue more, coupled with fiscal discipline.
